We are seeking an attorney with 4–7 years of healthcare experience to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will have worked in a law firm’s healthcare regulatory and/or reimbursement practice, or in-house with an insurance company, hospital, or other healthcare organization. Strong working knowledge of Medicare and/or Medicaid, along with healthcare fraud and abuse laws, is essential.

 

As Legal Counsel you will support the Legal and Compliance Department with drafting and providing comprehensive legal counsel in assigned areas of responsibility. Legal Counsel will be expected to take primary responsibility for the company's day-today commercial & contracting needs as well as expand the scope of their existing legal expertise by working on a variety of legal issues as described more fully below.

  • FDA and OSHA Regulatory Compliance
  • Clinical Research and R&D Legal Oversight
  • General Commercial and Contract Law

 

 Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide practical and strategic legal counsel to internal stakeholders across North America on a variety of legal, regulatory, and compliance matters. 
  • Interpret and ensure compliance with U.S. healthcare regulations, including Anti-Kickback Statute, False Claims Act, Sunshine Act, and HIPAA, among others. 
  • Serve as a legal partner on FDA and OSHA regulatory matters, particularly in connection with medical devices, product development, clinical trials, and workplace safety. 
  • Serve as a legal partner to R&D and Clinical Research teams, ensuring compliance with clinical research regulations and ethical standards. 
  • Support the company’s privacy and data security initiatives, including advising on data protection laws (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR) and incident response plans. 
  • Draft, negotiate, and review a wide range of commercial agreements, including vendor, customer, professional service, research, licensing, and confidentiality agreements. 
  • Consulting with management, commercial advisors, and other business team members to provide counsel on legal matters affecting the company. 
  • Participate in internal investigations and support compliance with internal policies and external reporting obligations. 
  • Develop, implement, and train on company policies and procedures, with a focus on legal compliance and risk mitigation. 
  • Monitor and analyze changes in laws, regulations, and industry standards that may impact the organization, recommending and implementing necessary updates. 
  • Manage litigation and oversee outside counsel, including pre-litigation strategy and dispute resolution. 
  • Maintain corporate governance and records for all North American legal entities. 

Qualifications

 
  • In house or law firm experience working  in the Life Sciences, Medical Device, or broader Healthcare industry strongly preferred. An ideal candidate will have worked in a law firm working in the healthcare regulatory practice area, or in an insurance company, hospital, or other health care delivery setting with a strong working knowledge of Medicare and/or Medicaid and healthcare fraud and abuse. 
  • Demonstrated experience navigating complex healthcare regulatory environments 
  • Working knowledge of laws and regulations enforced by the FDA, OSHA, OIG, and CMS 
  • Experience supporting clinical research, R&D, and product development from a legal and regulatory standpoint 
  • Familiarity with U.S. and international privacy and cybersecurity laws (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA) 
  • Proven ability to translate legal complexity into clear, actionable guidance for business teams 
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a fast-paced, collaborative environment 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school 
  • Licensed to practice law and in good standing; state of Texas preferred 
  • 4-7 years of relevant legal experience in a law firm or in-house counsel role 
  • Background in healthcare law and regulatory compliance, strongly preferred 
  • Comfortable working remote or hybrid if in Austin

Compensation Data

Salary Disclosure: $120k-$140k (plus annual bonus)
