Summary Statement

 

The Global Research department at Ottobock is seeking an experienced machine learning expert/data scientist to join our dynamic and multidisciplinary team.

 

Our department is dedicated to fostering innovation by exploring cutting-edge technologies and methodologies in healthcare, specifically in orthotics and prosthetics. We focus on current and future breakthroughs that can significantly enhance the quality of life for individuals with impairments. As a member of our international team, you will play a crucial role in developing data-driven solutions that positively impact on the lives of those affected. 

Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • You will collaborate with an international team of experts to identify and tackle data-driven challenges in healthcare
  • You will investigate, implement, and optimize AI/ML models to analyze complex datasets based on physiological signals and sensors to extract actionable insights and control devices
  • You will research on smart human-machine interfaces, advanced AI/ML analytics (predictive/classification models) and reinforcement earning algorithms
  • You will lead and design experiments to validate new methodologies and technologies, focusing on improving outcomes for individuals with impairments
  • You will research state of the art and competitors, evaluate technologies and generate new opportunities for the company
  • You will contribute to the continuous improvement of the department's data science capabilities by mentoring junior staff and promoting the best practices
  • You will document findings, prepare technical reports and present results to stakeholders and the broader research community
  • You will develop and implement functional AI/ML modules in collaboration with the internal software engineering department

Qualifications

 

  • Advanced degree (MSc or PhD) in Machine Learning, Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Bioinformatics, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, or advanced analytics in healthcare
  • Proven track record of developing AI/ML models
  • Strong understanding of statistical modeling, predictive analytics and AI/ML algorithm design
  • Experience in data engineering, including cleaning, preprocessing and managing large datasets
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, and familiarity with relevant libraries (e.g., NumPy, Pandas, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively and work independently
  • Strong communication and English skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Interest in international collaboration
  • Willingness to learn and enjoy interdisciplinary and creative work
  • Professional experience in the care and rehabilitation of neurological patients, preferably with a focus on orthotics and prosthetics, is advantageous
  • Proficiency in German communication is a plus
