We are looking for a Pedorthotist to service our patients in the Lincoln Park area.This qualified candidate will provide Pedorthic care to patients while being directly supervised by the Orthotist/Orthotic Assistant covering the office. This position will be able to provide direct care for “off-the shelf” orthotic and prosthetic items for walk-ins and wound care patients.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessment to gather data relative to the patient’s individual needs within your scope of practice.
- Provide instruction and education, as appropriate to the patient’s needs.
- Interpret patient assessment information to develop a comprehensive plan for patient management
- Conduct thorough inventory of assigned clinic, including but is not limited to, items considered “off the shelf,” “soft goods,” orthotic/prosthetic componentry, machinery, tools, mechanical equipment, and raw materials while coordinating with inventory manager and safety officer.
- Develop and Maintain knowledge of: Anatomical landmarks; basic musculoskeletal anatomy; planes of motion; basic medical terminology; policies and procedures regarding privileged information and HIPAA regulations; material and tool/equipment safety procedures and standards; universal precautions regarding infection control; orthotic/prosthetic design; orthotic/prosthetic fitting criteria; trimlines; impression-making techniques, materials, devices and equipment; rectification/modification procedures as they relate to specific orthotic/prosthetic design; measurement tools and techniques; orthotic/prosthetic assessment, orthometry, measurement, evaluation and outcomes forms; materials science; componentry; alignment devices and techniques; hand and power tools; mechanics (i.e. levers and force systems; care and maintenance of orthoses and prostheses); item warranty and warranty limitations.
- Work independently as a Fitter to fit Off-the-Shelf items for walk-ins and to treat patients with Wound Care on calls as appropriate.
- Clean, inspect and perform functional tests of all equipment, with accompanying documentation, as appropriate.
- Maintain communication through documentation and interaction with the patient, significant others, and members of the healthcare team.
- Promote a positive work environment through compliance with customer relation policies and standards.
- Maintain confidentiality of all patient related information (HIPAA Compliance).
- Utilize appropriate safety and infection control practices and use tools and equipment safely and appropriately.
- Comply with all federal, state, and company regulatory and compliance policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Ability to assess patient conditions and recommend treatment options with a diverse patient population.
- Thorough understanding of medical terminology, basic anatomy and physiology.
- Aptitude in casting and model modification techniques preferred.
- Self-motivated and detail oriented.
- Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with a wide range of people including vendors, suppliers, providers, co-workers, and management.
- Exhibit strong critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and use of good judgment in resolving issues.
- Demonstrated organizational and management skills; ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks to completion.
- Proficient computer skills in MS Office and databases
- Associates Degree or equivalent experience; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Prefer current certification by the American Board of Certifications (ABC) as a Certified Fitter of Orthotics or Certified Pedorthist.
- Previous experience with inventory management also preferred.
- A valid driver’s license with no limitations operating a motor vehicle; must have reliable vehicle; maintain automobile insurance in accordance with state law.
