We have an opening for a R&D Project Manager to join our Research and Development team in Salt Lake City, Utah. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside a passionate, hard-working engineering team focused on developing innovative products that make a meaningful impact on human mobility. The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic project leader with a strong technical foundation and a comprehensive understanding of the product development lifecycle, from early concept through manufacturing and product launch.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Leadership of cross functional product development project teams, from the early conceptualization phase all the way into transfer to production and product market launch.  
  • Ability to quickly gain the appropriate technical knowledge within assigned projects in order to be effective in leading engineering discussions and making project decisions.
  • Ownership of project from start to finish including all milestones and deliverables.
  • Utilization the Ottobock Product Development Process, and insuring compliance on assigned projects. 
  • Formulation, tracking, and optimization of project scope, schedules, budgets, and resources.
  • Creation of medical device Design History Files.
  • Production and presentation of project status to various stakeholders within the company. 
  • Driven for continued improvements within area of influence.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Some regional or internation travel may be required (<10%).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in technical field (ME, BME, MSE, etc.).
  • 5+ years of experience in a product development environment with at least 1 of those years in a lead engineer role and/or project management role.
  • Knowledge and understanding of a phase gate product development process: from concept to final released product.
  • Capacity to actively lead cross-functional teams as well as work independently when required.
  • Ability to navigate several active projects and manage time accordingly.
  • Strong communication and reporting skills, both up & down organization levels and with diverse stakeholders.
  • Understanding of basic business terms and metrics: marketing, forecasting, sales, and financial data.
  • PMI Certification and MS Project experience a plus.
  • Medical Device Industry experience is desirable.
  • Knowledge of ISO 13485 and QSR regulations preferred.
  • International team experience is a favorable.
  • Self-starter, with the initiative to quickly connect the dots, determine actions, and to drive projects forward in a fast-paced environment.
  • Hands-on mentality to get things done. Ottobock’ s project managers are leaders and project contributors, not just coordinators.
